#47 - Chapel House
The house at the foot of Silver Spring Blvd. is referred to by locals as the "Chapel". I was told that it was built in the late 1880's after a disagreement about the Sunday School at St. Matthew's.
Some people felt that Sunday School shouldn't be held in the sanctuary and instead a separate building was constructed. Raymond Borger tells how his grandfather planned to use trees cut from the Picnic Grove for the construction. His son said that under the circumstances that might not be a good idea. Someone then donated the lumber.
I've retold this story several times and now I am questioning myself about the name "Chapel" House. Chapple Creek runs down Silver Spring Blvd, under Kunkletown Road and behind this building. I now wonder, was the building named for the creek that runs across its backyard? Or was the house built and then sometime later, the creek named or renamed as Chapple Creek?
The tour is over! Congratulations! If you email us at: Churchroad@gmail.com, we will respond with your “Certificate of Honor” for your dedication to exploration and learning. You can continue east on Kunkletown Road to come back to Rachel’s Kunkletown General Store - where the tour began 27.1 miles ago.
