#22 - Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company

In 1953, the men and women of Kunkletown came together to create an all-volunteer fire company that any town would be proud of.

Each day as the men worked on the building, a lunch would be waiting for them across the road in Marlene Prutzman's backyard.

The volunteers have proudly served the community, responding to house & barn fires, brush fires and vehicular accidents.

In recent years, a great deal of pressure has been on the company as training became more time-consuming and personal equipment more expensive and young people were not as quick to fill the ranks to make up for those who aged out.

The company holds a number of fundraising events, including an almost monthly breakfast.
