#12 - Fiddletown, the Town That Never Was
Usually when a road's name has town in it, you will find a four-way intersection with several homes and a business or two and be able to assume that this was the town the road is named for.
But you will not find such a location anywhere along Fiddletown Road's brief 2.7 mile length. Legend has it, that each evening, a gentleman would sit on his porch and fiddle away. Eventually, a neighbor across the way leveled an unspoken challenge by laying his fiddle on his lap and alternating "tunes" with his neighbor. The competition did not end with anger, but with friendship as the two joined forces and fiddled together joyfully. And so locals referred to the home and location as "Fiddletown"... And thus was born the town that never was.
The building on Fiddletown Road was the Point Nelson Hotel.
Make a right onto Meixsell Valley Road going east. Take notice of the lovely grounds to your right (2.1m) and the pond (2.3m). Continue and then make a left onto Gower Road (2.7m). A good vantage point to view the “school” would be in front of the “One-Lane Bridge” sign.
