Signage

Public roads have signs with white lettering on a green background.

All other colors indicate unmapped or private roads.

You will notice small signs, with numbers, in front of houses, often by mailboxes - these are, as you would imagine, house numbers.  In 2010, Monroe County reviewed all road names and house numbers in the interest of public safety, making it easier for first responders to locate your home.  Previously, some road names were used more than once and house numbers didn't necessarily go in sequence up and down the road.  At the time of the change, small signs - often blue or green - were made available to the public for a small fee.

For fun, you may want to use the list below to check off the names of streets that you pass that have names of our Founding Families.
