#11 - Kleintop One-Room School

& the One-Lane Bridge

MAP for mock grove etc.png

There is no place to park safely near the One-Lane Bridge nor can we see the Kleintop School, so let us "read" on without moving.

Soon you will be approaching the One-Lane Bridge from Fiddletown Road.  On the other side of the tiny bridge Fiddletown Road continues to the left, but to the right is Kleintop Lane.

The Kleintop One-Room School is out of sight towards your right, deep behind trees, at the intersection. Kleintop was the 2nd school built, following the Gower School in the middle of the 19th century. In 1907, they had 41 students attending school on a daily basis.

Rules governing one-room schools held that if a school was no longer in use, its ownership reverted to the family on whose property it sat.  When this school closed, the Kleintop's incorporated it into their home.

We will talk more about our one-room schools several times on this tour.   Another quaint thing about Eldred are its One-Lane Bridges, which seem to abound here - you may want to try to count how many you go over on this tour.

Now, finally, back to your car - Turn right, out of the parking lot and continue east across the one-lane bridge (.9m), and make a left, this is still Fiddletown Road (Kleintop Lane is to your right, we’re not going that way), continue north on Fiddletown Road until you see Meixsell Valley Road on your right.
